6/3/2023 0 Comments Kevin renderman brain tumor![]() ![]() A high body mass index (BMI) is an established risk factor for many types of cancers, and a higher prevalence of meningiomas among obese people has been observed in several large studies. The rare disorder neurofibromatosis 2 increases the risk of meningioma and other brain tumors. Some research suggests that the use of oral birth control and hormone replacement therapy could raise the risk of meningioma growth. Some studies have also suggested a link between breast cancer and meningioma risk related to the role of hormones. Meningiomas are more common in women, leading doctors to believe that female hormones may play a role. Radiation therapy that involves radiation to the head may increase the risk of a meningioma. There is no solid evidence to support the belief that meningiomas occur because of cellphone use. Whether this occurs because of genes you inherit, hormones (which may be related to the more frequent occurrence in women), the rare instance of prior exposure to radiation or other factors remains largely unknown. Doctors know that something alters some cells in your meninges to make them multiply out of control, leading to a meningioma tumor. In many cases, because meningiomas do not cause any noticeable signs or symptoms, they are only discovered as a result of imaging scans done for reasons that turn out to be unrelated to the tumor, such as a head injury, stroke or headaches. Make an appointment to see your health care provider if you have persistent signs and symptoms that concern you, such as headaches that worsen over time. Most signs and symptoms of a meningioma evolve slowly, but sometimes a meningioma requires emergency care. Headaches, especially those that are worse in the morning.Changes in vision, such as seeing double or blurriness.Depending on where in the brain or, rarely, spine the tumor is situated, signs and symptoms may include: doi: 10.1038/367576a0.Signs and symptoms of a meningioma typically begin gradually and may be very subtle at first. This study highlights the advantages of large-scale population maps to identify abnormal biological tissues.ĭolecek TA, Propp JM, Stroup NE, Kruchko C. Traditional measures of CBV were not predictive of PFS or OS. An atlas-defined hypervascular tumor blood volume greater than 2.35 cc prior to treatment, 0.14 cc after treatment, and a decrease in atlas-defined hypervascular tumor volume less than 80% following treatment were characteristic of a shorter PFS and OS. Voxel-wise comparison of individual patient CBV maps to the atlas allowed delineation of elevated tumor perfusion from artery and normal cortical tissue. ![]() The volume of tumor tissue with elevated CBV, percentage of enhancing tumor with elevated CBV, and the mean and maximum change in normalized CBV intensity relative to the atlas were computed. MRI and CBV maps from 32 recurrent glioblastoma patients were then obtained prior to and following treatment with bevacizumab, registered to and compared with the CBV atlas. A CBV atlas was created by calculating the voxel-wise mean and variability in CBV. Z-score normalized CBV maps were registered to stereotactic atlas space in 450 patients with brain tumors. In the current study, we have constructed a large-scale radiographic atlas of CBV to assess treatment response to bevacizumab in individual patients with recurrent glioblastoma. Dynamic susceptibility contrast (DSC)-MRI is a well-established perfusion MR imaging technique for estimating relative cerebral blood volume (CBV) in primary brain tumors however, tumors localized to regions with naturally elevated perfusion, including cortical tissue and common vascular territories, make evaluation of tumor vascularity difficult to assess. ![]() 6/3/2023 0 Comments Boxer breed![]() ![]() ![]() The Boxer brindle is characterized by a fawn fur with dark stripes that can be dense to scarce (one or two stripes). However, it is easy to confuse American Boxers with German Boxers since both of them have the same stance. This is because of the shape of its ankles, paws, and knuckles. The American Boxer stands differently from the English Boxer. Their coat is also denser, brighter, and stronger than English and German Boxers. The breed is the easiest to recognize among all other variants, thanks to the lack of wrinkles in adult dogs. ![]() However, it was the first one to be given official recognition in 1904 by American Kennel Club. The American Boxer was the last variant to be developed in the Boxer line. Defining characteristic: A tight and shiny coat with no wrinkles, and a wider snout. However, this does not mean that they lack strength or speed.ģ. They are also thought to be the smallest with thinner and shorter legs. English Boxers have the highest knuckles of all other variants. The breed doesn’t lose its gracefulness while charging and hunting, which is a typical characteristic. It has a slender musculature and a stylized body that allows for further agility and precise movements. The UK Boxer stands out for being more lithe, sleek, and athletic as compared to other Boxer breeds. The Kennel Club of the United Kingdom (KC) established this dog as a pure breed in 1948. This breed is also called the English Boxer or British Boxer. The snout, in comparison to other types, is smaller than the American Boxer and wider than the UK Boxer type.Ī post shared by Boxergone Defining characteristic: Considered the most elegant among all Boxers, owing to its high knuckles atop small feet The length is exactly in the ratio of 1:2 in German Boxers with a pure bloodline. The width of the thigh in this breed is slightly wider as compared to others.Ī feature typical to German Boxers is the length between their skull and snout. The bones are dense and large, which helps give the musculature a slightly more pronounced definition. The dog is preferred for its slightly larger frame as compared to the UK and American Boxer. Some purists think this is the only “official” Boxer breed. Defining characteristic: Larger and more robust than other Boxers.German Boxer Dog Image Credit: SoDope, Pixabay However, there are plenty of morphological differences among Boxer breeds to consider.īelow are the different types of Boxer dog breeds and their differences. There are no variant types or official sub-categories in the official sense. Sometimes, these bloodlines are mixed, while other times they are absolutely pure. It is important to note that officially there is only one type of Boxer breed that has different bloodlines. The Boxers we know and love today for their silliness and energy have emerged from a Molosser-type dog that was used in hunting.įun Fact: The term “Boxer” is derived from the breed’s propensity to use their front legs in a manner that looks similar to boxing athletes with their gloves up. This medium to large-sized dog was bred as a cross between the Bullenbeisser dog (now extinct) and the Bulldog. Boxers were originally bred in Germany as guard dogs in the 18 th century. ![]() |
